Gaelcholáiste Chomáin PLC
Since its introduction in 2010 Adult Education has gone from strength to strength in Gaelcholáiste Chomáin. It is now the leading provider of Adult Education in Erris. Gaelcholáiste Chomáin offers up to date QQI approved courses which have numerous progression opportunities including full-time employment, further training and also apprenticeship programmes. The following courses are on offer in Gaelcholáiste Chomáin:
- Engineering Technology
- Architectural Technology
- Professional Cookery
Courses begin in September and finish in May. Courses follow the structure of the school year with all holidays and class times similar.
In the past students who have attended courses in Gaelcholáiste Chomáin have had different starting points. Some students have come straight after finishing the Leaving Certificate, others have come as Mature students looking to upskill. If you feel you would be interested in any of our courses please feel safe in the knowledge that all levels of ability and ages are catered for. Extra tutorial time can be provided if necessary.

Costs Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees payable by EU nationals as per instruction of the Department of Education and Skills.
Contribution & Registration Fees
€50 ( non-refundable ) Administration Fee made payable with application to Mayo Sligo & Leitrim ETB. Department of Education and Skills Contribution Fee of €200 (payable on course enrolment) to Mayo Sligo & Leitrim ETB introduced in Budget 2010 which may be reimbursed if you are a person in one of the categories below:
- Full medical card holders in their own right and their dependent children
- Those eligible under the student grant scheme
- Those in receipt of the Back to Education Allowance (BTEA)
- College student services fee of €100 payable on registration. (A payment plan can be arranged with the College for this fee)
FETAC Examination Fee
FETAC Examination Fee of €50 is payable to the FETAC Examination Secretary. Certain exemptions may apply.
Students should budget for the above costs along with daily expenses, textbooks & materials.
Students may apply for a Maintenance Grant. These grants are means tested and payable monthly. Application forms and further information can be found on www.susi.ie
Back to Education Allowance (B.T.E.A.)
All of our courses are approved for the purposes of the BTEA. To be eligible for the BTEA you must meet specific age criteria and be in receipt of a designated social welfare payment for a certain period of time. Apply to your local Social Welfare Office for more details.
Assessment and Certification
Certification of courses is awarded by FETAC (Further Education and Training Awards Council) All Courses are full time. Candidates who successfully complete the course will be awarded a QQI Level 5 certificate. Candidates who achieve less than the required standard for the full course will be awarded a Component certificate for the modules in which they have been successful. Candidates can complete new modules each year as a full time student eventually leading to a full certificate. Assessment is based on project work and examination. Assessment takes place on an on-going basis throughout the year and in the month of May.
